With recent happenings in the country, everyone has had to switch in between moods. I, for one, have had a fair share of that.
In my discussions with people many can’t seem to get things done, and just wish the present headache pans out successfully. While it is very well essential to hope for the brutalities and the justice we deserve to end well. It is also twice essential to keep your mental health in check.
Here are 5 simple things to do, to keep you in check, enabling you to do what you need to amidst the happenings.
- Breathe
This sometimes is underrated, but it has proven to be most effective in scenarios like this. Breathing in and out deeply, allowing your stomach to rise while you inhale and exhale the air through the mouth. Please practice this and stay calm.
- It’s okay to take some time out
If at any point you ever feel like everything is too much for you to handle. Please, freeze that application, stay off social media, call a friend- have a chit chat with someone. All you might need is something or someone to take your mind off whatever is going on.
- Scribble- Write whatever comes to mind
A simple way to unclog a load of thoughts constantly going in and out of your mind would be to simply write them down, delegate some now, and do the rest later. You really mustn’t do everything at a particular time. You might not just be in the mood for that, and coming back to it won’t pose any harm.

- Be Grateful
Whether or not you agree with me, a lot has happened this year, from the pandemic to the recent protests against brutalities. Open up your heart and be grateful, there is a lot to be thankful for. Things might not be looking as good as you would want them to be but you’re alive and you can keep thriving. Spend a few minutes to connect and be grateful.
- Meditation
Meditation is a form of reflective thinking, think of it as tidying up, taking out the garbage clustered in one’s mind, or tidying up a workspace. This enables you to take and unfold things one step at a time. Also, soothing music can be played in the background.
In conclusion, I know this is a hard time, whatever is going on with you, if you need anyone to talk to, please send a message. Make a deliberate decision to guard your mental health. Be happy, stay healthy.
